It is Forbidden For a Heart

Sahl ibn ‘Abdullah, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “It is forbidden [haram] for a heart to smell the scent of certainty [yaqin], while it yet finds tranquility in other than Allah ta’ala; and it is forbidden that light should enter a heart, while there yet remains in it anything of that which Allah ta’ala dislikes.

    Salaam aleykum,

    Wa alaikum salaam

Firstly, it’s not a hadith. It’s a saying of one of the pious people of the past.

I don’t have any commentary on it, but what I understood from it was that if there are any evil qualities present in your heart, light will not enter it; and if you trust and rely on other than Allah ta’ala, you won’t get the certainty of faith.

Every person wakes up each day as a vendor of his soul, in our daily routines, what road are we traveling? The only way that we can ensure safety on this daily journey is through following the koran and the sunnah and through constant remembrance of Allah…the pull of the dunya is sometimes stronger than our will to stay on the right path even though we may we doing all of these things, each daily journey is potentially dangerous for our souls. It is only by the grace of Allah that we will succeed. May Allah give us safety on this journey and lead us safely home to him.May Allah purify our hearts and renew our strengths. Aimin.
